Fatigue is a common side effect of cancer and its treatment. Feeling tired, weak, having difficulty concentrating, thinking and making decisions are all signs of fatigue. Each person will need to find ways to feel better and cope with fatigue. Here are some things that you can try:
- Plan activities around times when you have more energy
- Take naps as needed during the day
- Make sure you are eating and drinking well
- Ask for help. Family and friends will want to help, so let them! Allow them to do laundry, make dinner, or clean
- Use distraction. Reading, visiting friends, shopping, etc., may help to keep your mind off of the fatigue
- Rotate napping with periods of activity. Don't oversleep or over exert yourself. Both activity and napping are best in moderation
- Tell your doctor or nurse how you are feeling
